While the benefits of essential oil's to adults of good health is extremely good. However, to children it can be dangerous. Some essential oils can only be used with children over the age of 5 when it comes to our children we always want the best for them but we need to learn how to use essential oil safely in order to give them the best outcomes of using the oils.
Here are two examples of common oils that are used on children when they shouldn’t be.
Peppermint and Eucalyptus.
When we look at peppermint we think it's peppermint what harm could that cause? Peppermint has a high amount of menthol.
Eucalyptus is another one. Eucalyptus contains 1,8 cineole. This mean its offers a strong therapeutic properties meaning it has strong healing powers. During cold and flu season eucalyptus is great for killing the bacteria and viruses within the air. It can also reduce swelling muscle spasm and coughing.
For children when exposed to high amounts of peppermint and eucalyptus it can cause breathing complications. The recommendation is to not use peppermint or eucalyptus at all for children under five. Especially for children who have been diagnosed for asthma.
Recommended uses for peppermint for children over the age of five is three drops in one ounce of carrier oil. Eucalyptus is six drops in one ounce of a carrier oil.

All children should be considered different usage than adults when using the oils.
And all usage should be considered with a health care provided for proper safety guidelines. Always take precautions when using essential oils.
How to use your non kid friendly essential oil.
Nowadays you can use your essential oils in your car, at your office, in your bedroom. You can still use the essential oil in your home if you know your children will not be home for a certain amount of time. Allowed oil to set and dissolve before the children return to the area. You can diffuse certain rooms and close the door. If you are using it in lotions sprays ect. make sure you label them and keep them out of reach of your children. Essential oils are great but in the wrong hands it can become harmful.
